ABOUT
A Home Orchard Project is a fruit tree and edible landscape orchard located outside of Kalispell, Montana. I have over 200 varieties of fruiting trees, shrubs, brambles and vines in production or under testing in the windy center of the Flathead Valley.
Everything grown is being evaluated for cold-hardiness, disease resistance, flavor and productivity in this tough climate. If I sell it, it means it is growing here.
As I add several dozen varieties to my new orchard every year, some have not yet stood the test of time. Because of my small acreage, many varieties exist as a few limbs grafted onto an existing tree.

I also have many trees available now for sale, some well proven and some still in question. Please look at the specific fruit tabs on this website to look at the varieties I have of each fruit. Even after 20 years, this is still more of an experimental than a production operation, I have a very wide but thin inventory.
The orchard is run by myself, Rod McIver, a retired smoke-jumper and forester, with all the part-time help that I can beg or buy from friends.
I can sometimes be found at nearby farmer's markets, but most sales are direct from my nursery.
WHAT I OFFER:
- A variety of rootstocks to choose from. Rootstocks are chosen for disease resistance, cold hardiness and range in size from dwarf to standard full size trees.
- All plants sold here are varieties that have been continually tested in our specific Western Montana climate. Varieties that produce well in other regions often have different results here.
- Trees are sold in a variety of sizes with an emphasis at younger, less expensive trees, from small whips (which many find to be the ideal time to plant a fruit tree), to larger, more developed trees. Prices range from $10 for baby bench grafts, $15-20 for one-year old whips, $25-35 for 2-3 year old well-branched trees, up to $100 for large multi-variety trees. All are grown and dug right here.
- Trees can be custom made to order, including multiple varieties on one tree.
